An asset sale masks’ a good June quarter Evolution Mining (ASX:EVN) has reported its June quarter operational numbers, with the sale of its Edna May mine masking what was a good result. The Mt Rawdon mine was the standout for the quarter, with the Cowal and Ernest Henry mines reporting modestly higher gold production. Operating costs took a step back from the recent positive trend, to increase modestly for the June quarter. Furthermore, the balance sheet marches from better to better,

A good second quarter Rio Tinto has just reported its operational results for the second quarter to 30 June 2018, and despite lingering concerns over excessive supply conditions for many of its commodity offerings, the result was a good one. The company’s key operational segment in iron ore turned in a good result for the quarter, with copper however the standout. The aluminium segment was unfortunately again a laggard in the second quarter, with only bauxite stepping up. Guidance for 2018

All Part of the Plan Diagnostics specialist, Sonic Healthcare (ASX:SHL) continues to expand in two of its major offshore markets (Germany and the US) which, combined, account for over 40% of revenues. Today, we provide an update on the developments on this front and provide some commentary on how it is likely to impact the company going forward. We maintain our BUY rating on the shares. What’s New? In our last coverage of the global pathology provider in June (FAT-AUS-877) we provided commentary

Fat Prophets take Profits A recent update from Ardent Leisure (ASX:AAD) on its preliminary, unaudited full-year results, which include an estimated impact from non-cash valuation adjustments and impairment charges to be recorded in the second half of its fiscal year, were not well received by the market. Given the recovery in the Theme Park business after the tragic accident in 2016 is slow-going, we reassess our investment stance. The weakness in the Australian Theme Park division has continued and the investigation into

Unfazed Just two weeks ago, BT Financial Group issued what is tantamount to a “declaration of (price) war” across the Fund Platform Industry. Though, as we addressed in our note on HUB24 last week, we believe this to be ultimately an overreaction by the market, with there more than meets the eye to the “price cuts”. That said, we are revisiting the move and providing commentary on the impact on vertically integrated player, Fiducian (ASX:FID). What’s New? Last week, in our coverage of

Packing a punch Shares of global packaging giant Amcor (ASX:AMC) have edged higher since our last review, with it all fairly quiet on the corporate announcement front…until this week. The company has confirmed the US$5.25 billion acquisition of US based rival Bemis to create the world’s biggest manufacturer of flexible plastic packaging products. The shares have resumed from a trading halt today lower, but we believe the deal has substantial financial and strategic merit. We expect the market will appreciate this in

A good year bar one BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP) has released its operational results for the full year to 30 June 2018, and in doing so has revealed another Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO) record. The company reported a bunch of other good results but there was one exception. Production guidance for 2018 was met across all the company’s key product offerings, with one coming in ahead of its target. Moreover, some of the lesser product offerings produced solid cameo performances for

Set for a Smooth Transition The latest development from Estia Health (ASX:EHE) has been the announcement that the current CEO and MD, Ms Norah Barlow, is stepping down from November. She has steered the ship successfully during an important transformation phase for the company, with Estia now on a much firmer footing than two years ago. We have no qualms about her replacement, with Mr Ian Thorley, the current COO, taking over the role. We expect the transition to be a
